Deceit is the second and final studio album by English experimental rock band This Heat, released in 1981 by Rough Trade Records. As with their self-titled debut album, the tracks on Deceit were assembled from largely improvised recordings that the band accumulated since their inception in 1976, with varying degrees of audio quality. However, it is generally considered to be more song-orientated than its largely abstract predecessor. The title is in part a pun on the band's name.
SuperJags I had no idea This Heat were on Bandcamp. I found it through my feed. My old vinyl copy is virtually unplayable these days. 40 years on it still sounds fresh. A brilliant, brilliant album. philip I heard "Horizontal Hold" in a short film about the German Democratic Republic and it blew me away. djepan This album is crazy. I've never heard anything like it and it was recorded 40 years ago. Really, the creativity is off the charts here.

This Heat were an experimental rock band based in the Brixton district of London, England. They first received attention when famed DJ John Peel aired selections from a home-recorded demo tape they’d sent to him. Two years later, their first album, This Heat, was released after several years of recording. Now widely recognized as an important, influential work of avant-garde post-punk, it was widely ignored at the time of its release. Their second (and final) album, 1981’s Deceit, was recorded (in part) in an abandoned meat locker that the band affectionately named Cold Storage.
This Heat’s music has always felt unstable and unsettled. The work that this London post-punk trio created between 1979 and 1981, over two studio albums and a lone EP, was a charged concoction made from equal parts dub, world music, musique concrète-inspired tape-loop experiments, and progressive rock.
