Jim Copp and Ed Brown recorded and released nine albums of stories and songs for children between 1958 and 1971. Andrew James "Jim" Copp III (December 3, 1913 – April 7, 1999) wrote all of the stories and songs, and played and recorded all of the music. Ed Brown (d. 1978) designed and illustrated all of the duo's album covers.

Jim Copp (1913 – 1999) was a genius in the making of children's records, and one of the greatest creators of entertainment for children to work in any medium. The world is poorer for the loss of a creative artist of extraordinary wit, imagination, humor, and integrity. The recordings he made with Ed Brown (who died in 1978) will live forever. Playhouse Records is a record label founded by Jim Copp and Ed Brown in 1958 to release children's music. Over the course of 13 years, Copp and Brown wrote, recorded, designed, produced and promoted nine albums of their own material and continued to run the label until 1978 when Ed Brown died from pancreatic cancer. The label resumed production and distribution of Copp and Brown's material on cassette and CD under the direction of Ted and Laura Leyhe in the 1990s. Jim Copp Tales (1958).

Jim Copp, a creator of children's records with loony tunes, literate lyrics, occasional dark themes and wacky characters like the Dog That Went to Yale, died at Midway Hospital in Los Angeles on April 7. He was 85. Between 1958 and 1971, Mr. Copp and his partner, Ed Brown, composed, performed and recorded on their label, Playhouse Records, sketches for nine albums with titles like ''East of Flumdiddle,'' ''Gumdrop Follies'' and ''Thimble Corner.
