Soul: Play That Funky Music is another decent if spotty compilation from the Madacy label. While it sticks to successful '70s soul singles, it's a fairly eclectic selection of songs within that realm, ranging from lush, laid-back ballads (like the Manhattans' "Kiss and Say Goodbye") to gritty funk (Earth, Wind & Fire's "Serpentine Fire"). The primary gripe with this disc is similar to the one with the other compilations in this series: at 12 songs, it's a bit too brief.
