Born in 1935 in Bayonne, France, reedman Michel Portal has the unique position of being one of the architects of modern European jazz and having a hand in some of the most significant shifts in modern classical music. Portal, along with pianist Francois Tusques, trumpeter Bernard Vitet, drummer Charles Saudrais and tenorman Barney Wilen, embraced and expanded upon the innovations of Ornette, Cecil, Coltrane and Shepp as part of the nascent French free jazz movement  . Hard to find a place to put this German artists, but categories matter little when an album is this good V/A:Sex & Bestiality,4xtape,1984,France.

I've had this for quite some time now, and I still find new things and layers in this, one of the very best free jazz session ever. Dear Old Marocco is in my opinion the highlight, but any true free jazz enthusiast will find wonderfull challenges here, an absolute stunner.

Starts out with a great bass solo by Clark...then all Hell breaks loose....Lots of noise (ie Peter Brotzman like)....pootsy.....one of those thousands of recordings that all sound the same (everyone just "blasts away") no structure at all...."Our Meanings and our Feelings"?....well I'm not "Feeling" it.....
