Roses in the Snow is the seventh album by country music artist Emmylou Harris, released in 1980. While Harris' previous release, 1979's Blue Kentucky Girl, featured traditional, straight-ahead country (as opposed to the country-rock of her prior efforts), Roses in the Snow found Harris performing Bluegrass-inspired music, with material by Flatt and Scruggs, Paul Simon, The Carter Family, and Johnny Cash.
Combining acoustic bluegrass with traditional Appalachian melodies (and tossing one contemporary tune, Paul Simon's "The Boxer," into the mix), Roses in the Snow ranks among Emmylou Harris' riskiest - and most satisfying - gambits.
Lyrics to "Roses In The Snow" song by Emmylou Harris: I met my darlin' in the springtime When all the flowers were in bloom And like the flowers our love. Our love was like a burning ember It warmed us as a golden glow We had sunshine in December And threw our roses in the snow. Now God has taken my darlin' And left me with a memory A memory I will always cherish Are these last words he said to me. My darlin's buried on the hillside Where all the wild spring flowers grow And when winter snows start fallin' On his grave I'll place a rose. Our love was like a burning ember It warmed us as cold winds blow.

Overview (current section).
I heard Emmylou Harris and "Roses in the Snow" on WKCR NY (8. FM). I am hooked on Emmylou Harris's version of The Boxer. This is a remastered, studio version and they have a stringed instrument in the background doing "kaching chings" I love it. Can't quite figure out it it's a mandolin or slide guitar. Seems toi have 6 strings. I am really enjoying the album. Wish I had listened to Emmylou Harris many years earlier
