Divertimento for String Orchestra S. 13 B. 18 is a three-movement work composed by Béla Bartók in 1939, scored for full orchestral strings. Paul Sacher, a Swiss conductor, patron, impresario, and the founder of the chamber orchestra Basler Kammerorchester, commissioned Bartók to compose the Divertimento, which is now known to be the pair’s last collaborative work.

The Colloredo Serenade, K. 203, and Divertimento, K. 251, are far from the most well-known examples of either of these forms in Mozart's output. Still, they are no less deserving of a well-thought-out performance and quality recording than any of his other compositions. That is precisely the treatment they are given in this performance by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Alexander Janiczek, who also serves as soloist. These two works were likely composed for performance at outdoor events, not as formal concert pieces.

Bartok: n Folk Dances; Janacek: Mladi. Anyway, this essentially neoclassical program is performed in what I think is fine style by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Indeed, the selections on this disc fit together so well that success would virtually be guaranteed even with a somewhat average ensemble, but the Orpheus.
