Sunburst is an album by American jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson recorded in 1975 and released on the Blue Note label.
Henderson continued to keep several components of the Herbie Hancock Septet together, for drummer Billy Hart, bassist Buster Williams, reedman Bennie Maupin, and now trombonist Julian Priester are back. But this time, Hancock is replaced by George Duke, and fusionaire bassist Alphonso Johnson and drummer Harvey Mason (late of the Headhunters) are added - and these switches make much of the difference.

Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Cornet – Eddie Henderson. Recorded and mixed at Wally Heider Recording Studios in San Francisco in March and April 1975. Sunburst (LP, Album). Blue Note, Blue Note. Bn-la 464-G, bst 84 480 g.
Eddie Henderson's solo debut was excellent fusion album, one between best that genre releases of all time. Two years (and one album) later recorded " Sunburst" is really good album, but not on the same league. Some line-up changes happened; there is no more Herbie Hancock on board (he is replaced by very capable keyboardist George Duke, but not the same league as well).

My Sunburst album became very worn well before the 70's were over. In that day, some of mankind's most creative and freethinking musicians had only recently mined, forged and began crafting the use of a newly found raw musical resource called electricity (in the pre-digital age!)? This record under Henderson's leadership successfully states the facts of funk and the sounds of space. Eddie Henderson's trumpet playing here is a real sunburst of brilliance throughout, be it with wah-wah, echo-plex, ghost electronics or plain good old acoustic.
