Blanck Mass is a British electronic solo project by Benjamin John Power, one of the founding members of drone band Fuck Buttons. His track "Sundowner" was used at key points during the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic games. It was first heard as the Union Flag was brought into the stadium by members of the Armed Forces. Later it was played when the Olympic Flag was paraded, and finally as the Olympic Flame was brought to the stadium in a speedboat
Electronic artist from the UK, and one half of Fuck Buttons. 69. 3. RIP Muhammad Ali. This London 2012 Olympic moment was quite something I'll never forget. Orchestral version of My track 'Sundowner' played to greet the man himself.
Blanck Mass is the side project of British musician Benjamin John Power, otherwise known as half of the experimental/noise duo Fuck Buttons. His self-titled debut album, which was recorded and produced by himself in his London apartment between the summer and winter months of 2010, was released by Mogwai's Rock Action label on June 21, 2011.
At the current moment, however, it may be hard to find much truth in Okay, Let’s Talk About Magic and Sweet Love for Planet Earth (both 2008 Fuck Buttons titles). The cover of Power’s latest Blanck Mass album seems to nod in agreement. At a time when global politics is just one man after another showing his ass, the only sensible reaction is to show your teeth. World Eater finds one of electronic noise’s most popular and populist artists making his heel turn.
We called up a guy called Blanck Mass, who is one-half of Fuck Buttons. We liked his last record World Eater, specifically how brutal sonically it is. It's quite a hard listen at times and it’s also sort of melodic. So you bring up something that helps this stand out from just being sort of a collaborative album with Blank Mass, which is the emotional part of it. Where were you deriving most of your emotions? What were you focusing on?
Blanck Mass will release a new album on Sacred Bones this summer. Benjamin John Power, one-half of Fuck Buttons, will follow up his 2017 LP, World Eater, with Animated Violence Mild. The eight-track LP is the Scotland-based producer's fourth solo album, most of which were released by the Brooklyn label (his first, self-titled LP arrived via Rock Action Records). On the album, Power was influenced by "grief" over personal loss as well as the global one to "consumerism," according to the press release.
Album Songs and Lyrics. 1. Cold (The Blanck Mass recording). Darkness At the Door (The Blanck Mass recording). 4. Hallelujah (So Low) (The Blanck Mass recording). 5. Magazine (The Blanck Mass recording). 6. Nothingness (The Blanck Mass recording). 7. Violence (The Blanck Mass recording).
World Eater (LP, Album, Ltd, Num). Sacred Bones Records. World Eater (CD, Album). I am fairly new to Blanck Mass's work, but I've known Fuck Buttons for a long while. You have to really crank this thing, and it still is not nearly as enveloping as I would like. For an album that asks the listener to "LISTEN AT MAXIMUM VOLUME" on the sleeve, I was sure expecting a louder record. It's too thin and quiet for what this music demands. Why not spread it onto two discs and give.
