Grains of Sand is the fourth studio album issued by gothic rock band The Mission, released in October 1990. A number of the tracks were originally recorded for their previous album, Carved in Sand, but not included on that release. Also included are acoustic versions of previously released songs and the Andy Partridge co-produced single 'Hands Across the Ocean'. The album was expanded with the Metal Guru's material and included in the two disc reissue of Carved in Sand, released in 2008.

The Saints are an Australian rock band originating in Brisbane in 1973. The band was founded by Chris Bailey (singer-songwriter, later guitarist), Ivor Hay (drummer), and Ed Kuepper (). Contemporaneously with American punk rock band the Ramones, the Saints were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzz saw" guitar that characterised early punk rock
This song is by The Saints and appears on the album Prodigal Son (1988) and on the album Permanent Revolution (1991). I could fill a room with empty pocketsI could build a palace from lost idealsForgotten to say what it is that I wantedNow I go to sleep and dream of nothingSo the weatherman says there'll be a change in the weatherAnd this is fine in my time of lifeIf someone could tell me something l hadn't heard beforeI wouldn't be knocking at your door.
An interesting collection, Grains of Sand is not a Mission album proper, but rather a chance for the listener to hear the other songs that were recorded for Carved in Sand. The single "Hands Across the Ocean" is a nugget of pop brilliance that hints at what came next for Wayne Hussey. Most of the tracks are solid, but covers of "Love," and "Mr. Pleasant" are better off as B-sides

GLike a grain of sand Cthat's how I D feel tonight GIn a foreign land Cwashed up and Dout of sight. I woke up this morning and felt like a zombie Couldn't find the shoes underneath my bed My tongue was covered in fur So I shoved it in my pocket At least I'm alive I think I'll survive. Like a grain of sand That's how I feel tonight In a foreign land Washed up and out of sight (RPT).
