Alfred Garrievich Schnittke (Russian: Альфре́д Га́рриевич Шни́тке, Alfred Garrievich Shnitke; November 24, 1934 – August 3, 1998) was a Soviet and German composer. Schnittke's early music shows the strong influence of Dmitri Shostakovich. He developed a polystylistic technique in works such as the epic Symphony No. 1 (1969–1972) and his first concerto grosso (1977).

Side one and the first track on Side two are the string quintett from Schnittke wich is a very reduced and silent work wich remembers the late schostakowitsch. It is not overloaded and polyphonic like his symphonies. Played and recorded very well, the one and only version on analogue vinyl. It seems that there is no export release of this with english cover and text.
