Vienna Strauss Philharmonic Orchestra, Вена (Vienna, Austria).

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO), under the direction of the late Sir Georg Solti, offers a magnificent performance of this great work. Solti had a reputation for demanding crisp precision and fast tempi from the orchestras he conducted. The VPO and Solti do not disappoint with Schubert's Ninth. Tempi are uniformly faster than the other versions of this work that I've heard. The effect is to give the overall performance a warm, sunny disposition, even in the slower movements.

Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester (Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra) is an Austrian orchestra based in Vienna. The orchestra was formed under the auspices of Professor Oskar Goger and the ORF (Austrian Radio) in 1966. Eduard Strauss II, nephew of Johann Strauss III, who carried on the Strauss dynasty musical tradition into the 20th century, was the orchestra's first conductor.

Recorded in 1968, produced by John Culshaw with an all-star cast, this performance captures the opera's brutality and atmosphere of nearly uninterrupted hysteria. Georg Solti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic, one of the great Strauss orchestras, in a searing reading of the frenzied score. Solti's control of the opera's waves of tension and fury makes the moment of Elektra's recognition of Orest almost unbearably triumphant, and the ending a cataclysmic summation of Elektra's passion.
