Little Red Corvette" is a song by American musician Prince. Released as a single from the album 1999 in 1983, the song was his biggest hit at the time, and his first to reach the top 10 in the US, peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was also his first single to perform better on the pop chart than the R&B chart. The song combines a drum machine beat and slow synth buildup for the verses and a full rock chorus

Little Red Corvette". I guess I should've known by the way You parked your car sideways that it wouldn't last See, you're the kinda person that believes in makin' out once Love 'em and leave 'em fast. I guess I must be dumb 'Cause you had a pocket full of horses Trojan and some of them used But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right And you say, "What have I got to lose?" And honey, I say Little Red Corvette Baby, you're much too fast (Oh) Little Red Corvette You need a love that's gonna last

The album is, however, notable within Prince's catalogue for its wide variety of themes in addition to the sexual imagery which had already become something of a trademark on his previous work Artwork.

1999 was Prince's fifth album. He had just modest success to this point, his biggest hit being the "I Wanna Be Your Lover" four years earlier. The title track was issued as the first single in September 1982, about a month before the album was released. As "Little Red Corvette" rode up the charts, he drew far larger crowds - the early dates proved to be some of his last theater shows, as he was a clear arena headliner by the end of the tour. The line, "She had a pocket full of horses, Trojans, some of them used," refers to Trojan condoms. The "Jockeys" represent men who have previously slept with the girl . refers to all the guys that have "ridden" her.

That Little Red Corvette has made the cut for many a Greatest Songs of All Time list should come as no surprise to anyone, but you might be surprised at some of the people who’ve covered it over the years, including Sandra Bernhard, John Mayer, Paul Kelly (of Paul Kelly and the Messengers fame), the Nylons, Matt Nathanson, the Gear Daddies, Big. Daddy, and the BoDeans. You just can’t go wrong with the original, though, and if you’re gonna listen to it, you might as well listen to it in the proper context, so give 1999 another spin and enjoy.

The promo copy of this alternate cover is simply gold stamped on the back '...promotional...return upon demand by the owner WEA Records Ltd. Acceptance of this recording...' Not all printing shows or is readable. One of the pathetic ways that the record companies tried to lay claim to ownership of items that they sent out (unasked for) to reviewers, DJs etc. These sort of claims were thrown out by a court when CBS tried to prosecute someone for having the temeerity to sell thier promos and make some money out of them. They were deemed a gift by the court and therefore the receiptee was entitled to dispose of these products as they saw fit. Soon after CBS stopped making promos but companies continued to put 'Promotional copy not for sale' into the 90s (WEA in particular). Examples of how multi million £ companies sweat the small stuff and shoe how pathetic they really are.
