Al di Meola is an American jazz-fusion guitarist, composer and producer of Italian American origin, from New Jersey, United States. Di Meola enrolled at Berkless College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and it was in 1974 that he joined a band called Return to Forever and stayed with until 1976. Di Meola would go on to explore many styles but stuck to his jazz-fusion compositions. He has also won the Best Jazz guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s Reader Poll. Di Meola released his debut solo album Land of the Midnight Sun on October 25th 1976 through Columbia Records

Born on July 22, 1954 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Di Meola briefly studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston during the early '70s before accepting a job replacing guitarist Bill Connors in fusion trailblazers Return to Forever (a group that also included monster instrumentalists keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, and drummer Lenny White) in 1974. In 2011, Di Meola delivered the Latin and world music-infused studio album Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody, featuring bassist Charlie Haden and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. The lushly textured fusion effort Elysium followed in 2015.
