Includes lyrics in German translated in English on printed inner sleeve. the first completely 'professional' produced and arranged work of Einstürzende Neubauten and the beginning of their decay. only the track "Halber Mensch" can convince, the rest is rather sterile and dead.

Halber Mensch is the most cohesive Einstürzende Neubauten album, and also their darkest at its most sparse. It's very unusual, and so moreish once you're in. A massive improvement over the sometimes quite messy earlier work. Neubauten have one of the strongest discographies in music, their more relaxed later sound is often the equal of this, and I'd put Halber Mensch in my overall top ten of all time.

The band's next album, Halber Mensch ("Half Man") in 1985, may be seen as a developmental breakthrough. Musical structure became more evident, and Bargeld's lyrics and, especially, his singing changed. He moved from shouted words and phrases toward organized, poetic melodies. They spent the first half of 2008 touring for the album, playing 32 dates in 19 European countries.
