Soul Braza is fire and yet another reason why this May is a five star month for music. Look out for Eduardo Araujo’s ‘Brazilian James Brown’ vocals over a psych-rocked-out funk number, Tony E Frankye’s Brazilian impersonation of Sly Stone on Vou Procurar O Meu Lugar and Gustavo’s soul strut Nao Vou Ficar among others. If you hear Soul Braza you’ll probably want it and if you get it, you’ll probably be singing along to it. All the same, it’s probably best not to do that in front of any Brazilians or Portuguese though, in case you look a twat
A landmark album from late 60s Brazil! This is the first – and the wildest – album by this legendary group that was one of the founding forces of the Tropicalia movement – a brilliant musical statement that easily ranks with some of the most groundbreaking late 60s American work. Sweet 70s grooving from Brazilian singer Eva – a bit of soul, a bit of easy, all styled together nicely by orchestrations from the magical maestro Gaya! Gaya's work here is similar to his best backings for other artists in the Blue Brazil generation – a mix of American pop, post-bossa.
60’s Soul had an exciting raw sound to it, and many great tracks were recorded in this decade. The 1970’s brought more sophistication and better productions to Soul Music. The soulful vocals backed by strings horns and great arrangements with lyrics that could relate to, made 70’s Soul probably the most incredible period of music for me personally. couple of years of the decade was not as many as that of the early to mid 70’s. We will cover the separate sub genres of this magnificent music in features covering Funk, Deep soul and Southern Soul, Rare Groove, Modern soul and Disco/Boogie, as well as 60’s Soul and 80’s Soul.
This wonderful single released in 1977 is taken from the album Cuban Soul - 18 Kilates of the previous year, perhaps the beauty and potential of the 2 songs had been underestimated. Very rare 45, kindly granted by my friend Fausto, as well as the album of which even the 2001 reissue in CD format is worth a lot of money. I only knew Onda, fascinating since the first ring, now I can say that the B side may need a couple more plays but it's fantastic. Let's dance! rawkin' dog. Compartilhar.
