In "Heartbeat" partially lays the answer why we continue to love Throbbing Gristle's records just the same - if it wasn't for Chris Carter's electronic pulse with a twist, soothing if not always that optimistic in its overtones, I guess some of TG records wouldn't be complete or even interesting in that matter. This way, Carter's synthetic trademarks do inform and reward the listener when hopelessly disturbing sound kicks in - whether on a TG or C&C record.

Post-breakup they continued in many collaborations with artists from the scene and Cosey's own form of dadaist performance art, and formed their own project Chris & Cosey. Heartbeat is their first release, which came out the same year. Whilst it lends itself more towards the realms of synthpop, its sound experiments and analogue drum machines are far from one dimensional and interesting enough to warrant a number of listens. Put Yourself In Los Angeles is something that needs to be heard, at the very least.

Heartbeat is the debut studio album by electronic duo Chris & Cosey. It was recorded in 1981 and was released under the 'Rough Trade' label on that same year. Stylistically the album follows in the footsteps of traditional Throbbing Gristle songs, but contains more contemporary synthpop tracks that would define their later years. Retrospectively, the album was given a . /5 on Sputnik Music. All tracks written by Chris & Cosey (Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Carter), except as noted.
