Besides composing for a broad range of TV and film productions and sound designing for indie films, theatre and animation, John is also a solo artist with a debut album to be released via Denovali Records in July 2013. Stylistically his music fuses aspects of his more emotive film composition approach with rhythm and elements of abstracted guitar, percussive, prepared piano and vocal textures.

Working across a variety of media John Lemke explores all things sonic through live performance, sound design and his work as a documentary film composer. The Walizka EP is his latest solo release on Denovali Records. Three items in a suitcase, a clarinet, a looper and a microphone - is how it all started. A free improvisation with friend & collaborator Łukasz Bernacki (on clarinet) sparked John’s desire to bring his compositional and production approach back down to the most basic elements. Previously released digitally as a teaser for John’s debut album, the Walizka EP actually presents newer material, progressing the electro-acoustic nature of ‘People Do’ towards more dub drenched territories. Refining John’s blend of prepared piano and field recordings with hand crafted beats and swampy bass lines, this deeply moody and danceable release bends genres with refreshing ease.

Walizka by John Lemke is a significantly enhanced reissue of a three-track EP which was originally released as a teaser for his 2013 full-length album People Do on Denovali. The new version includes the three original tracks (‘Walizka’, ‘Drift’, and ‘Kompass’) along with four stunning remixes by fellow Denovali artists Piano Interrupted, SaffronKeira, Everyday Dust, and Petrels. According to Lemke, the songs on Walizka were actually developed after the material on People Do and shift the electro-acoustic feeling of that record into more dub drenched territories . Despite the diversity of styles and artists, it all meshes together beautifully and flows coherently. A unique and captivating album.
