The discography of Metallica includes 10 studio albums, four live albums, three extended plays, 39 singles, 10 video albums, 41 music videos, one soundtrack album, one collaboration album, and three box sets. They are a San Francisco-based metal band formed in 1981 by James Hetfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums). After several bassist and lead guitarist changes (including Dave Mustaine), the band settled on Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett, respectively.

Metallica (also known as The Black Album) is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica and was released on August 12, 1991 through Elektra Records to critical acclaim. Metallica produced five hit singles that are considered today among the band's best-known songs: "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Wherever I May Roam", and "Sad But True", also Don't Tread on Me was released as a promo single. The band promoted the album with a series of tours.

My favourite Metallica album, because it features Metallica in a time of despair; Cliff has died, their brutality and anger in the form of music presented as this album. James' riffage and songwriting is absolutely brutal and the complexity of their songs is unlike never before. The last of the classic trilogy and the end of an era for Metallica.

Every Metallica album ranked from worst to best. By Metal Hammer (Metal Hammer) 2018-10-31T12:22:00Z Metal Hammer. Metallica albums run the gamut from the album that redefined thrash metal to that ill-advised collaboration – here we look back on their back catalogue from worst to best. It's fair to say Metallica albums have been more scrutinised more intensely than pretty much any other metal back catalogue on the planet – but then no other metal band in history has achieved so much.

Colloquially known as the Black Album, Metallica‘s self-titled fifth album still towers over the modern hard-rock and metal landscape like a giant obsidian monolith. Released 25 years ago today, Metallica – which sold more than 650,000 copies in its first week of release, and spent four consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 in the late summer of 1991 – has gone on to sell over 16 million copies in the . alone, making it the best-selling album of the last quarter-century.
