Brothers and Sisters was the first album the Allman Brothers Band recorded after Duane's death, and it's a transitional record as much as it is a traditional one. It was the group's most mainstream-sounding album at the time, which paid off: Brothers and Sisters is their only No. 1 LP. Betts has more of a presence on the album, including this playful instrumental he named after his daughter. It's a tight performance, which, of course, would gain even more momentum in concert. Beginnings, released in 1971, was a double album, combining The Allman Brothers Band's first two albums, The Allman Brothers Band and Idlewildsouth respectively, on one disc. It may just be my personal opinion, but I think the Allman Brothers are the kings of southern rock. While they lost guitarist Duane Allman to a tragic motorcycle accident after only a few years together, they continued to make great albums (such as the classic Eat A Peach) even after his death and dominate the other great southern rock bands of that time .
