Umphrey's McGee is an American rock band originally from South Bend, Indiana. The band experiments with many musical styles, including rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, electronic, bluegrass, and folk. They have toured regularly and released several albums.
Much of the album was written in the studio, although Simple Minds had been playing early versions of several tracks during the recent tour dates. Innovations which the band displayed on Real to Real Cacophony included minimalist structures based around the rhythm section of Forbes and McGee, plus the occasional use of unconventional time signatures. Drummer Brian McGee left the band at the end of the Sons and Fascination sessions, citing exhaustion at Simple Minds' constant touring schedule and a desire for more time at home with family. He later joined Propaganda. Rise to fame (1982–1983): New Gold Dream (1981–1984). In 2001, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill began working with t Gordon Goudie (ex-Primevals) on a new Simple Minds album to be called Cry.

To think that Charlie Christian changed the face of jazz guitar before he passed away at the age of 25 is amazing. Few players have had that kind of impact on jazz, and fewer at that young age, which makes Christian a true genius of the instrument. Pat Martino has pushed the limits of post-bop guitar with his lightening fast lines, deep bebop vocabulary, and excursions into Eastern, modal, and pop genres. Though his playing isn’t for everyone, it’s hard not to admire Pat’s abilities and the energy that he brings to every tune, especially on this record.
