Crown Electric is Kathryn Williams 11th album, released by One Little Indian on 30 September 2013. Its title refers to the Memphis power company that Elvis Presley was employed by during his pre fame years and features in that album track "Gave It Away" "Elvis drove trucks for Crown Electric before he was The King".
Crown Electric is the tenth studio album from Liverpool-born, Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Kathryn Williams, and her first solo record in almost four years
The music by this Liverpool-born, Newcastle-based singer-songwriter sounds, superficially, rather uplifting – all major keys, clawhammer acoustic guitar, creamy double bass and delicate string arrangements, polished off by Williams’s sweet, flat vowels. But her lyrics leave a wonderfully sour aftertaste. Sequins, featuring Ed Harcourt, sounds like a beautiful lullaby until you realise it’s narrated by a coma victim preparing for death ( I’ve never felt better/and I like the sensation of feeling numb )
