Re-release of the earlier Count Five compilation from Performance, with new packaging and notes. There's a considerable range of material here, all of it pretty punk oriented, though very little as rewarding as the title track, a number five hit nationally that managed to incorporate the best elements of the Yardbirds' and Bo Diddley's music. The other highlights include "Pretty Big Mouth" and a very animated cover of the Who's "My Generation. The sound is ridiculously good as well, and the biographical notes are highly informative.

After going shortly under the name of The Squires and several line-up changes later, the Count Five were born, with Roy Chaney taking over vocal duties, Irish-born John "Sean" Byrne on rhythm guitar and Craig "Butch" Atkinson on drums.

Psychotic Reaction is the only studio album by the American garage rock band Count Five, released on October 1966, through Double Shot Records DSS5001. It features the hit single Psychotic Reaction, number five on the Billboard charts in October 1966, and The Who covers, My Generation and "Out in the Street". Previously to recording sessions, Count Five was rejected by several record labels before they got signed to the Los Angeles-based Double Shot Records in 1965.

Count Five was an American garage rock band, formed in San Jose, California in 1964, best known for their hit single "Psychotic Reaction". The band was founded in 1964 by John "Mouse" Michalski (born 1948, Cleveland, Ohio) playing lead guitar and Roy Chaney (born 1948, Indianapolis, Indiana) playing bass guitar. The two were high school friends who had previously played in several short-lived bands, most notably a surf rock group named The Citations.
