I Like It Like That is an album by Motown group the Miracles, compiled for the UK market and released on the UK Tamla-Motown label (TML11003) as one of its initial group of six albums in March 1965 (there was no equivalent album to this in the USA). Known as the Miracles' "forgotten album", few people, outside of Motown insiders, hard-core Miracles fans, and collectors, remember that it had even existed.

Like its predecessor, it boasted a US hit single, this time with I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You, and adds a funkier, Steely Dan edge to the proceedings. However, at the remove of thirty years, it is noticeable that the most acceptable moments of the album are those without vocals, implying (no doubt unintentionally) that in the struggle of man against the machine, it might be better to switch sides. While it is both surprising and depressing to note that the APP have managed 43 million album sales ('Without ever having played a live show!' as the press release boasts), some comfort can be taken from the fact that The Project have never had a major hit single in the UK. All in all, these re-releases best serve as a reminder of the unacceptable face of progressive rock and as a reminder of why punk rock had to happen.
On Imagination, his second solo album, Wilson revisits this same formula. Lots of Nineties bands, from Spiritualized and Yo La Tengo to Air and the High Llamas, are finding inventive ways to build on his old sound. But if Wilson has any idea that this is happening, he’s keeping it to himself. As he sings in the leadoff cut, Your Imagination, he’s taking a trip through the past/When summer’s way out of reach. Like most rock & roll visionaries, Wilson thrives on teamwork, and this time he doesn’t get much help from his friends. Souther and the keyboardist from Survivor. But Imagination perks up when Wilson gets ahold of decent tunes like Your Imagination, Dream Angel and Sunshine.
