Both his grandfather, Foster, and his uncle, Robert Lansing, the husband of Eleanor Foster, had held the position of Secretary of State. His younger brother, Allen Welsh Dulles, served as Director of Central Intelligence under Dwight D. Eisenhower, and his younger sister Eleanor Lansing Dulles was noted for her work in the successful reconstruction of the economy of post-war Europe during her twenty years with the State Department. Their older son John W. F. Dulles (1913–2008) was a professor of history and specialist in Brazil at the University of Texas at Austin. Their daughter Lillias Dulles Hinshaw (1914–1987) became a Presbyterian minister.

Under Professor Salzman’s direction the University of Washington Wind Ensemble has performed at a number of prestigious music conventions, has presented several world premiere performances of outstanding new music for wind band and in 2004, undertook a highly acclaimed nine-day concert tour of the Kansai region of Japan, returning for more extensive tours of that country in 2007 and 2010.

Allen Vizzutti, one of the world's most versatile and awe-inspiring trumpeters, will be guest soloist with the K-State Wind Ensemble, conducted by Frank Tracz, at 7:30 . Wednesday, Oct. 11, in McCain Auditorium. Vizzutti has recorded a dozen solo albums, exhibiting his versatility in repertoire ranging from Baroque piccolo trumpet showpieces to jazz and contemporary albums featuring his own compositions. Vizzutti has performed in every state in the union as well as in 60 countries and at prestigious venues such as the Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
