L HERBA D HAMELI were formed in Barcelona in 2001. Their music is constantly meandering through various prog rock styles; from symphonic prog to jazz-rock but they were always faithful to their own Catalan Folk. During the 2001-2008 period, they self-released four albums, had various turbulent line-up changes and had hundreds of live performances. Inversa visual' was released in 2009, another album with trademark band's style fusioning symphonic progressive rock and Catalan Prog Folk. The band is currently working as a sextet, with the following members: Carles Pin�s (keyboards, vocals), Dani Fabr� (bass, vocals), Guillem Roma (percussion), Valent� Pin�s (electric guitar), Ricard Rius (vocals and acoustic guitar), Guida Maym� (flute).

I discovered this album quite by accident. There I was looking for something totally unrelated on the web "surreal art" and found this fascinating cover. Very unusual Dali/Escher/Wenske imagery with little penis creatures (really!). I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was by a modern Spanish prog band, much touted as in the Canterbury style. And even more pleasantly surprised when I heard it. Yes, I can hear elements of Hatfield And The North and a touch of Caravan in their style, but there are lots of other elements, quite a few of them Spanish, especially many a nod to 1970's legend Fusioon. Yet Herba d'Hameli are also pretty modern and pioneering in their own way, and I can hear a touch of the classic 90's Italian band Nuova Era. And there's lots that is uniquely their own.Strange though (in that such innovative prog is a speciality of Ultima Thule and Audion Magazine) that Musea never informed me of this. That was yet another surprise! Yes, one of their finest new releases and not a single bit of promotion!Herba d'Hameli apparently started as a more traditional Catalan folk rooted outfit, and I believe this is their fourth (I'm yet to hear any of the earlier albums). "Inversa Visual" is quite a classic if you ask me. I was hoping that their next one "Girafes A Siberia" would be even better. But, they slightly missed the mark on that one. Great cover again though. Maybe I was hoping for too much! It's hard to improve on such a classic!
