Gritty Brash Gutsy Rousing Boisterous Confident Energetic Exuberant Passionate Swaggering Yearning Confrontational Fiery Relaxed Sensual Soothing Carefree Celebratory Romantic. Essential Collection. Edwin Starr's vocal approach combined the deep Memphis soul of Stax with the uptown pop of Motown, but aside from "War," which was a monster hit in 1970, and the classic grit of 1969's "25 Miles," he seemed to never quite find his footing. This collection has several of the Norman Whitfield-produced songs for Motown that came closest to giving Starr his own sound, including "War," and a couple of the late-career disco-styled tracks like ".

Essential Collection - Edwin Starr. The only repeated track is "I Am The Man For You Baby. Early Classics" is the better of the two, but "The Essential Collection" covers both his rare early Ric-Tic songs, his latter Motown fare and his 20th Century recordings.

Edwin Starr (January 21, 1942 – April 2, 2003) was an American soul music singer. Starr is famous for his Norman Whitfield-produced Motown singles of the 1970s, most notably the number one hit "War". Starr was born in Tennessee and raised in Ohio, and later lived in Detroit while singing for Ric Tic and Motown Records. Besides "War", Starr's songs "25 Miles" and "Stop the War Now" were also major successes in the 1960s. The Essential Collection is a compilation album released in 2000 by the band Duran Duran. It was re-released in 2007 and almost exclusively covers material from their first two albums, Duran Duran and Rio.

Edwin Starr The Essential Collection is just that, a collection of his biggest hits from his early Motown days to his later Disco/Funk efforts. While I appreciate the sounds of Motown it was one Disco track in particular that drew my attention to the CD and that is track 17 . If you’re a Motown fan I can highly recommend this album as it captures the time perfectly and is performed by a fantastic artist, the more modern tracks are an interesting look into what Starr may have become had he kept in the limelight. It’s certainly worth a listen. by 2012angeluriel29 Jun, 2016.
