Yet, Ricardo, came along with this album and said to everyone: ''This is how fresh and original can electronic music still sound. And so Alcachofa does. It truly sounds futuristic, as if it came from 15-20 years ahead of it's time. It might sound like a cliche, but Ricardo Villalobos is truly and without doubt on level of his own, light years ahead of the best producers around back then and today.
Alcachofa is the first studio album released by Chilean-German producer Ricardo Villalobos on the German house label Playhouse on September 19, 2003. The album cemented Villalobos' place in the vanguards of microhouse and minimal techno.
For most of the first 45 seconds of Chilean producer Ricardo Villalobos' debut album Alcachofa the only sound is provided by a vocodered voice. But rather than using that device to turn man into the sheen of a playful disco machine, Villalobos' treated vocal on opener "Easy Lee" is murky, weighted down by reverb and doubt. It frequently trails off at the end of words and sentences. And when the thump and snap of light 4/4 rhythms accompany it, it sounds even more submerged, as if it's trying to keep its head above water. Instead, at Alcachofa's heart beats a more steady rhythm, pumping out fragile melodies painted with small yet precise brushstrokes.
Thé au Harem d'Archimède is the second studio album by Ricardo Villalobos. It was released by Perlon on LP and CD on October 12, 2004. The album's French title, which translates into English as "Tea in the Harem of Archimedes," is a reference to the Mehdi Charef book Tea in the Harem (French title: Thé au Harem d'Archimède), as well as a pun on the French phrase "Théorème d'Archimède", the title of the album's fourth track.

The album marked Villalobos’ emergence as a kind of auteur-genius, presenting a totally realized personal vision. Subsequent records have seen him refine and develop this vision further, but it’s still the same basic sonic vocabulary that burst into life with Alcachofa. But for all its experimentalism, Alcachofa is at heart an hedonistic record, aimed right at your pleasure centres. Just check those moments where ‘Waiwaroninao’ swings upwards into the guitar-led crescendos, carrying you along with its rush of momentum. Alcachofa dropped right at the moment when Ricardo turned into this cult figure and propelled him well beyond the underground. Minimal conquered the mainfloors. Alcachofa has probably spawned a plethora of relatively boring percussive minimal productions but it definitely created some unforgettable moments on the dancefloor.
