Ulf-Dieter Schaaff, principal flute with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, always wanted to record Mozart's flute quartets, and Pentatone gave him a chance to do so. He formed a chamber group featuring other players from the orchestra: violinist Philipp Beckert, violist Andreas Willwohl, and cellist Georg Boge.

Flutist Ulf-Dieter Schaaff, violinist Philipp Beckert, violist Andreas Willwohl, and cellist Georg Boge present a collection of flute quartets by Mozart on their first release for Pentatone. All written between 1777 and 1787, this release features four delightful works commissioned by Ferdinand Dejean, a keen gentleman flutist, while the fifth-the No. 4 in A Major-was likely written for Mozart's own purposes. What a splendid followup recording that would be - perhaps with his own RSB orhestra. I'm just not sure he's really a chamber-music kind of player.
