released November 30, 2017. electronic experimental vocal shortwave Bologna.

Rarely has an album title been so evocative of the music it contains, especially in experimental music. A palace conjures up the image of a huge construction with many rooms of wide proportions, high ceilings, echoing halls, and maybe even cavernous undergrounds. Now make it a metaphor of the human mind and you will have an idea of what this CD by John Duncan and Giuliana Stefani can feel like. Palace of Mind" is a continuous 50-minute piece of electronic tones, ethereal drones (wind? voice?), and treated shortwaves

I have to say I was a little disappointed with this release; as my first and of few items by John Duncan, I admit I don't know much of his music, but from what other pieces I've heard it seems typical of his style

I have to say I was a little disappointed with this release; as my first and of few items by John Duncan, I admit I don't know much of his music, but from what other pieces I've heard it seems typical of his style. The piece is lengthy (50 minutes) and screeching, howling, and droning comprise the lot. Overall it isn't bad, but I remember the first time I listened to it my mind completely overlooked the fact that I was listening to a CD. The lengths of each segment of sound is long, almost a little too excessive, to the point where I unknowingly stopped enjoying it and it just became a background noise (which, for noise music, isn't a bad thing, I love having background noise, but I much prefer to be AWARE of it). It just sounds too much like some files were simply pasted together one after another without any real focus into what was being created; sure, sometimes nice accidents like that happen, but this one isn't an example of that to me. After a few more listens I started to like a bit more, but as for its place in my library, it has a rather low priority.
