I do agree with those who point out Morgan's excellent composing skills and the diversity of tunes on this album. The diversity along with many vibrant solos are what make this album so great. But I think "Cornbread" is better than any of these.

Tom Cat is an album by Lee Morgan recorded in 1964, though only issued in 1980. It was originally released as LT 1058. While lesser known in comparison to The Sidewinder and other albums, it features several of Morgan's contemporary Blue Note recording artists such as McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, and Jackie McLean.

Philadelphia horn-blower Lee Morgan had been with Blue Note Records for almost nine years when he recorded Cornbread, his 12th album for the label, in a single session held on Saturday, 18 September 1965. Listen to Cornbread right now. Originally from Philadelphia, Morgan was a d trumpet prodigy who made his debut recording at the tender age of 18 for Alfred Lion’s famous label, on 4 November 1956. Cornbread’s nine-minute-long title track was the first of four songs composed by the trumpeter on the album. It was driven by a boogaloo-style groove created by Ridley, Higgins and Hancock that had been the salient feature of ‘The Sidewinder’.

LP (Item 15062) Blue Note, 1965 - Condition: Very Good-. LP, Vinyl record album. The album's got Lee as his lyrical best – working almost with a sense of exoticism, especially on the. Dimensions & Extensions.

Album including Album cover Booklet (PDF). I& sorry! Dear HIGHRESAUDIO Visitor, due to territorial constraints and also different releases dates in each country you currently can& purchase this album. We are updating our release dates twice a week. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Yours sincerely, HIGHRESAUDIO. Cornbread offers a typical mid-'60s Morgan set of four originals and a standard. Most Like Lee' is a straight-ahead minor blues swinger, while the title cut is a swaggering 20-bar blues workout for the three horns that owes as much to Horace Silver's down-home gospel-inflected composing as it does to tunes like Morgan's own hit 'The Sidewinder.

Recorded in 1965, CORNBREAD by Lee Morgan features Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley, Herbie Hancock, Larry Ridley and Billy Higgins.
