Becoming X is the debut studio album by English electronic band Sneaker Pimps. It was first released on 19 August 1996 in the United Kingdom by Clean Up Records and on 25 February 1997 in the United States by Virgin Records. The album marked the only appearance of Kelli Dayton as lead singer before she was asked to leave the band; Chris Corner replaced her for the band's subsequent albums.

The beginning of ‘Becoming X’ would only be described as a variation of pop hooks with driving guitars such as Low Place Like Home and Tesko Suicide. Other tracks seem to take a page out of Portishead’s book with 6 Underground and Spin Spin Sugar. The Sneaker Pimp’s debut offers alluring transformations that ping-pong between various atmospheres.
Becoming X is one of the most engaging byproducts of post-Portishead trip-hop. While the Sneaker Pimps don't have the doomed romanticism of Portishead or the nasty experimental tendencies of Tricky, they have a cool sense of pop hooks and an edgier guitar attack than their predecessors. Tesko Suicide" moves along with jagged guitars and rhythms, while "6 Underground" is coolly detached postmodern soul.
