Terre Thaemlitz - Soulnessless The main chunk of Terre Thaemlitz' Soulnessless is a 29 hour (plus) piano solo rendered as a single mp3. It's labeled "output. due to the risk of software problems when opening the file for the first time on certain computers. To be honest, I'm still not sure whether it's good or not. But I'm glad I did it. The solo consists almost completely of Thaemlitz hitting chord after chord with varying degrees of frequency. Listen closely and you'll sometimes hear the strings of the piano or Thaemlitz's body moving this way or that. But listening for slight variations is beside the point when you're dealing with a 29-hour piece of music. There is no increase in tension in hour 17. No jazzy filigree one-fourth of the way through.

World's longest album in history & world's first full-length MP3 album.

terre thaemlitz soulnessless ソウルネスレス (2012). Released in May, 2012, Terre Thaemlitz' computer music project Soulnessless is without exaggeration an album of unprecedented scale, including multifarious critical analyses that dissect the intersections of gender, spirituality, and commercial audio production.

Terre Thaemlitz is a musician, public speaker, and owner of the record label Comatonse Recordings. Thaemlitz's work critically combines themes of identity politics – including gender, sexuality, class, linguistics, ethnicity and race – with an ongoing critique of the socio-economics of commercial media production

Thaemlitz states that Soulnessless will be pushing the boundaries of the album format in today’s post-CD era, claiming to set two records as The world’s longest album and The world’s first full-length MP3 album. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible on CD or vinyl, and a digital download would still be quite a task. In related news, prepare for at least two further Thaemlitz releases in 2012: the Complete Swirl EP by Mark Fell and Terre’s DJ Sprinkles alter ego, also a collection of writings titled Nuisance – Writings on Identity Jamming and Digital Audio Production. Terre Thaemlitz has announced a new multimedia album called Deproduction, which also features two remixes by her DJ Sprinkles alias. The release comprises an SD card containing audio, video and texts and will examine the impact of the Western Humanist notion of the nuclear family on LGBT communities, according to the Comatonse Recordings site. We live in an era in which dominant LGBT agendas are increasingly revolving around themes of family, matrimony, breeding and military service

Terre Thaemlitz - Soulnessless It's a bit lame to include an album by a friend, but I think with this Terre has thought about the album as a culturally understood form and attempted to cross-examine it. An album's duration used to be about 45 minutes, because that is roughly how much could fit onto two sides of vinyl. Here Terre takes that to an extreme, and fills an SD card with MP3 data of reasonable quality to fill as much space as possible. The album kind of opposes that paradigm. The music industry still holds onto this notional split between the music "in essence" and music "as recorded" - . as a tangible manifestation of that essence.

Terre Thaemlitz ‎– Soulnessless EP 1 and Terre Thaemlitz ‎– Soulnessless EP 2 please! texturerama. Says the label: Ben loves Terre loves Robin is the second EP off Premature. Featuring works by Terre Thaemlitz (aka DJ Sprinkles), Scanner, and a first from London based producer Ben Galyas. The EP builds upon a private archival project involving Thaemlitz and Scanner, "Terre loves Robin" brings deep solo recitals to intercepted telephone conversations (think Leveson, just more intimate). Galyas' "Cloud Version" is heavy ambience, glitched piano and harpsichord. Limited to 500 copies.

Beranyle
This IS NOT the longest album in history. The longest one is created by conceptual artist Jliat. "1 TERABYTE HARSH NOISE 233 x DVD" lasts 1 year 346 days 14h.

Malarad
That is an art piece, NOT an album sold. There are no multiple copies people can buy, therefore is not an album.

Zuser
There are infinite lenght albums, this is possible with vinil and pc files. The last album from the LCM series from Bull of heaven takes longer than the life of the universe to repeat.Talking about not repeating stuff bull of heaven also have the largest album, forgot the lenght, just check their page.

Still In Mind
UPDATE - APRIL 4, 2012: I just found out about ITB Noise, by JLIAT (a.k.a. James Whiteheat), completed in February 2012, which spans 233 DVD-R's and has a total running time of 711 days 14 hours. [Insert sound of baloon deflating.] Given that ITB Noise is an edition of one, and functions more as an archival art object, for the sake of argument I will continue clinging to my definition of an "album" as something produced in bulk for distribution, and imagine his piece changes nothing. ;)terre thaemlitz [comatonse.com]---enjoying Canto V right now..
