Sneaky Feelings, one of the original Dunedin Sound bands formed in the early 1980s return with a brand-new album of original songs. Показать полность. neaky Feelings were drawn to a wider variety of musical styles than most early Flying Nun bands and were one of the first to experiment in the recording studio. Perhaps what drove the band to push the limits of a pop band has been the fact that all four members write songs. A compilation from Flying Nun originals, The Stones -Three Blind Mice includes the bands' contribution to the legendary Dunedin Double, Another Disc Another Dollar EP as well as never heard before live recordings. Curated by New Zealand/Noise legend Bruce Russell (The Dead C, Xpressway Records), with liner notes by Shayne Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Bored Games), design + illustrations from Alec Bathgate +Chris Knox and mastered by Tex Houston (The Clean, 3Ds).

This was followed by the seminal Dunedin Double, a release which cemented the place of the southern city in the forefront of New Zealand independent music. Flying Nun moved into the full-length album market in 1982 with the Ego Gratification Album by Chris Knox and Beatin Hearts by Builders (recorded 1982, Auckland). Many of the most prominent kiwi rock and alternative bands have been signed to Flying Nun at some stage in their careers. In 1999 Matthew Bannister of The Sneaky Feelings wrote Positively George Street: A Personal History of the Sneaky Feelings and the Dunedin Sound, covering the New Zealand music industry of the 1980s, including Flying Nun. In 1990 Festival Records bought a fifty percent stake in Flying Nun, and then in 2000 merged with Mushroom Records, bringing Flying Nun into the Festival-Mushroom Records family of companies.

Dunedin Double established the names of four of these groups, each of which was represented on the double EP by one side. The four bands concerned were The Chills, Sneaky Feelings, The Stones, and The Verlaines. The Chills' song "Kaleidoscope World" in particular became very popular, gaining considerable airplay for the band (It later provided the title for the band's first album, a compilation of their early singles and EP tracks

Of the Dunedin Double-ites, Sneaky Feelings first to release an album, the first Flying Nun release recorded in a 16-track studio. Send You was a gorgeously tuneful collection, a taut nced sound smoother and sweeter than their label peers. Martin Durrant (Sneaky Feelings): We sound American, basically. We like American rock n roll, that’s what we listen to most. By 1991, no less than six Dunedin bands had US deals – The Chills, The Verlaines and The Straitjacket Fits all with majors. The Clean, who’d split in 1983 before releasing an album, reformed and released Vehicle (on Rough Trade in the UK). On . M’s world tour of 1990, The Bat’s (best) album Daddy’s Highway (1988) was the interval soundtrack.
