A cello concerto (sometimes called a violoncello concerto) is a concerto for solo cello with orchestra or, very occasionally, smaller groups of instruments. These pieces have been written since the Baroque era if not earlier. However, unlike the violin, the cello had to face harsh competition from the older, well-established viola da gamba. As a result, few important cello concertos were written before the 19th century – with the notable exceptions of those by Vivaldi, .

Apart the Concerto for Trombone, Strings and Timpani (1967), written for Miloslav Hejda, all his concertos and sonatas have not been composed for specific performers, but include specific features of the techniques of each instrument. So, although virtuosic, they're relatively easy to play. This part of Soukup's output also includes four symphonies and several shorter orchestral and chamber compositions. Czech music educator, composer and university educator.

Otomar Kvěch (25 May 1950 – 16 March 2018) was a Czech music composer and teacher. Kvěch was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He prepared for three years for his entry exam to the Prague Conservatory, and graduated after studying composition with Jan Zdeněk Bartoš and organ with Joseph Kuban. Proměna (Metamorphosis), Sinfonietta for violin and string orchestra (1976). Capriccio, Concerto for piano trio and orchestra (1986). tvero ročních dob (The Four Seasons), Symphony in A major for organ and orchestra (2001). Dvorák & Walton Cello Concertos. Dvorák & Walton Cello Concertos. Even though many decades have passed since Gregor Piatigorsky performed Dvorák's Cello Concerto in B minor and Walton's Cello Concerto with Charles Münch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, his recordings still stand as profound achievements, rarely if ever matched for passionate expression, timbral clarity, and technical fluency. This reissue in RCA's superb Living Stereo line is most welcome - indeed, its inclusion is de rigueur - for these recordings truly represent the high performance standards and technical advances for which the label has been esteemed.
