Denison Witmer is a singer-songwriter from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His first release, in 1995, was a cassette titled My Luck, My Love. He has since released six studio LPs; two live albums, a cover album (Recovered); three EPs; and an LP with The River Bends-a side project consisting of members of the Philadelphia-based alt-country band One Star Hotel.
Engineered by Denison Witmer using a mini disc player and a Sony ECM-MS907 stereo microphone. Tracks 2-1 to 2-12 mastered by Michel Musser at Freemans Processing. Track 1-14, "Broken," is not listed on the cd liner notes, but appears as track 14 on the previous release of "Safe Away" on Burnt Toast Vinyl. This Digipak release contains Safe Away, Are You A Sleeper? EP, Live W/ Saxon Shore plus bonus tracks from Safe Away.
Denison Witmer's first full-length release, Safe Away, is a giveaway of the dual talents behind the work. The fond appeal of Denison's own songwriting, in combination with the shimmering instrumental work of Don Peris (the Innocence Mission) unfolds with airy simplicity. Unlike successive albums, Safe Away is minimally produced - a close replication of a live acoustic performance, with touches of organ or guitar appearing almost as subconscious blushes of emotion, rather than anything to be focused on by the listener. The fond appeal of Witmer's own songwriting, in combination with the shimmering instrumental work of Don Peris (the "Innocence Mission") unfolds with airy simplicity.
