Vox's concert programs center thematically on the music of a specific place or purpose, and its debut album, released in October 2004, fit the pattern.

Jordan studied early vocal performance and harpsichord at the College of St. Scholastica which recently awarded him a Doctor of Humane Letters (DHL). Vox Early Music Ensemble - Josquin And The Lost Generation ‎(CD-ROM). Ancient Voice Records.

An early music ensemble is a musical ensemble that specializes in performing early music of the European classical tradition from the Baroque era and earlier - broadly, music produced before about 1750.

Vox is an Ann Arbor, MI-based early music ensemble that is performing a cappella Renaissance choral works in a part of the world where just recently they were hard to hear in person. Josquin and the Lost Generation is their debut recording. It opens with three Josquin works that his successors would have known well: the chansons Nimphes nappés (Draped Nymphs, a splendidly gloomy piece) and Faulte d'argent (Lack of money), and the motet Benedicta es. The rest of the disc is given over to two works that both commemorate Josquin directly and pay him indirect homage by either quoting Josquin's pieces or starting from their cantus firmus points of departure: the Musae Jovis of Nicolas Gombert (who, we learn, lost his post in a child sex abuse scandal) and the rarely heard Requiem mass of Jean Richafort.

"If we're ever to reach a point where the masterpieces of Renaissance music become as familiar to the general public as are the Michelangelo sculptures that people flock to see, it is groups like Vox that will make it s. voxearlymusic. Vox Early Music Ensemble. Absalon Fili Mi, composed by Josquin des Pres, probably the most famous composer of the Renaissance. This is one of the only (possibly the only?) recordings of the piece in the correct key. It is usually transposed because it has such ridiculously low notes is the bass part. Sad love songs were common all over Europe, and the advent of music printing helped to spread them widely. The first piece of printed music that we know of was a piece of plainsong, printed in 1476 by Ulrich Han, in Rome. Around 1500, Ottaviano Petrucci (a Venetian printer) began publishing songbooks with movable type. This sped up the dissemination of printed music throughout Europe, although it was expensive.

Founded in 1974, the group is named after the Elizabethan miniaturist painter Nicholas Hilliard.

Listening to the Hilliard Ensemble’s album, Motets et Chansons, was an enlightening experience as I have not listened to much vocal music during my life as a musician. The talents of the Hilliard Ensemble performed Josquin’s music with a passion and energy that was evident during slowest and darkest of songs. The fluidity and vocal perfection in each song showed the listener the careful thought the Hilliard Ensemble put in placing each note and coloring each texture. Experiencing the virtuosity of Josquin Des Prez in combination with the amazing talents of the Hilliard Ensemble has positively.
