Wild and Peaceful is the fourth studio album, and sixth album of new material released by the funk band Kool & the Gang, and is their commercial breakthrough album. The album was released in 1973 and was hugely successful on the Billboard R&B chart reaching and charting for 36 weeks. It also reached on the Pop charts, making it the band's first entry into that chart's Top 40. The album spawned the band's first 3 Top 10 singles.
The first album from the second white female signed to a Berry Gordy label was several years in the making. Singled out by Gordy from a band discovered by Hal Davis, Teena Marie - who, as an eight-year-old, could be seen tap dancing for Jed Clampett in an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies - signed to Gordy and spent a few years living in the household of Fuller Gordy (Berry's brother) and Winnie Martin (Jill Jones' mother). Recordings were made during this period, but nothing materialized until Rick James entered the picture.
Dreadlocks refers to a whole sector of hair styles from many areas of the world. The literal definition is matted hair, sometimes described as locked or uncombed hair. Depending on the origin location, the expression of dreadlocks differs. Among these are the indian 'Jata' as worn by shiva, the kenyan 'locs' as worn by the massai warriors, 'sisterlocs' as commonly called in Africa American communities, or the 'Elflocks' from the celts and the britons. Elflocks' - The Celts, Druids and Britons (2000BC). I am a young English girl living in Devon. I have what some people would call 'dreadlocks', that is, tangled locks of hair. I recently uploaded some photos of myself to Tumblr. I didn't expect the reaction I got. Suddenly I was being accused of cultural appropriation, branded a racist, jeered at and threatened.
