Jazz Composers' Workshop. When Charles Mingus's groundbreaking Pithecanthropus Erectus album appeared two years after these tentative workshop ventures in which the composer exercised his early ideas, an album-sequence began (The Clown, Tijuana Moods, Mingus Ah Um) that was to revolutionise not only jazz composing but also collective improvisation, with the ripples still continuing in contemporary music.

Charles Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), also known as Yardbird and Bird, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique and advanced harmonies.
