The Chumscrubber is a 2005 American-German comedy-drama film, directed by Arie Posin, starring an ensemble cast led by Jamie Bell. The plot, written by Posin and Zac Stanford, focuses on the chain of events that follow the suicide of a teenage drug dealer in an idealistic but superficial town. Some of the themes addressed in the film are the lack of communication between teenagers and their parents and the inauthenticity of suburbia.

The soundtrack to Chumscrubber - not to be confused with the similarly named coming-of-age film Thumbsucker - features a handful of pleasant, middling alt-rock songs and James Horner's darkly mischievous score. The sleepy cover of "Our House" by Phantom Planet (who are becoming nearly as ubiquitous on soundtracks from the 2000s as Smash Mouth were in the '90s) and Placebo's shimmery, druggy "Pure Morning" are the standouts among the rock tracks and capture the film's ironic take on suburbia. However, the noisy, clanky guitar antics on "Parental Rift/The Chumscrubber" are just as obvious and heavy-handed as the track's name implies.
By James Southall Thursday July 16, 2015. Composed by James Horner. It came and went almost entirely without notice despite having an album featuring a solid amount of score (presumably the whole thing) along with some songs (including Snow Patrol’s wonderful Run ) which is a pity really because it would have provided good fodder to put up against those who thought the composer had lost his creative spark at the time; it stands. alone as a unique entry in his vast body of work, almost entirely unlike anything else he ever wrote.
