The album is considered to be the first of a trio of folk rock albums: Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses (1978) and Stormwatch (1979). On the album cover appears an extended title line: Jethro Tull-with kitchen prose, gutter rhymes and divers-Songs from the Wood. The title track of the album contain two of these phrases in its lyrics. The UK music-paper adverts read: Jethro Tull present ‘Songs From The Wood’. A new album of Old Magic. It’s inspired by the thought that perhaps nature isn’t as gentle as we’d like to believe.

Songs From The Wood is a music studio album recording by JETHRO TULL (Prog Folk/Progressive Rock) released in 1977 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. With Kitchen Prose, Gutter Rhymes and divers" subtitles the album! Quite a programme as promised by the Mad Flauter. Maybe too much for its own good, actually. But the truth is that this album did not need bonus tracks to remains an essential mid-70's Tull album, though it is mostly due to an excellent flipside remedying to a weak start.

Listen to the best songs of the 1970s on Apple Music and this site. Ben’s original version of the song, recorded for his 1972 album Ben, is a subdued gem. But the version recorded for his massive 1976 crossover album Africa Brasil exudes joy, sparks flying from every exuberant note. The record would end up getting Rod Stewart-whose Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? bore a strong resemblance-sued. It’s not difficult, though, to see what Stewart saw in its jubilant DNA (unconsciously, according to his autobiography).
