David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its style and content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that he was later known for, such as the folk rock influenced "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
David Bowie is the second studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released under that title by Philips in the UK, and as Man of Words/Man of Music by Mercury in the US, on 14 November 1969. It was reissued in 1972 by RCA Records as Space Oddity (the title of the opening track, which had reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart). Space Oddity was the name used for CD releases of the album in 1984, 1990 and 1999, but it reverted to the original, eponymous title for 2009 and 2015 reissues.

David Bowie began writing the music on Hunky Dory on his first visit to America in 1971. The whole Hunky Dory album reflected my newfound enthusiasm for this new continent that had been opened up to me," Bowie said in 1999. That was the first time a real outside situation affected me so 100 percent that it changed my way of writing and the way I look at things. Traveling by bus from Washington, .
Astonishingly good album. You like David Bowie? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Hunky Dory came out in '71, I think he really came into the mainstream, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Freddie Mercury and Alice Cooper, but I think Bowie had a far more flamboyant, androgynous sense of style. Hunky Dory is a double edged sword. Providing the feelings of wonder and adventure (which Bowie had when coming to America) but at the same time, stabbing you through the heart with such an unbearable sadness that it even gives "Blackstar" a run for its money. A truly stellar album, thank you Mr. Bowie. Like with Ziggy Stardust it doesn't really contain any bad or even indifferent song.
David Bowie changed music forever. Throughout his career, he reinvented not just his sound but his persona over and over again. Before I saw David Bowie live, I was just your normal, dysfunctional, rebellious teenager. Next day, all hell broke loose in the playground," recalled singer Marc Almond. The star later hired Mick Ronson to produce his third solo album, Your Arsenal - and got the chance to discuss sexual politics on tour with Bowie in 1995. David quietly tells me, 'You know, I've had so much sex and drugs that I can't believe I'm still alive,'" wrote Morrissey in his autobiography.
