It was released on November 14, 1998 on Mötley/Hip-O. Tommy Lee recorded his drum tracks for the album's two new songs, the single "Bitter Pill" and the promo single "Enslaved" and then started a prison sentence of five months. Additionally, a remix version of "Glitter" is included. The tour for the album began after Lee's release from prison.

Mötley Crüe parted ways with Elektra in the spring of 1998, releasing their second compilation, Greatest Hits, on their own label that fall.
In 1992, sessions for Mötley Crüe's next album turned ugly, leading to the dismissal (or departure, depending on the source) of Neil, who was replaced by the Scream's John Corabi. The revised band issued Mötley Crüe in 1994, which peaked at number seven in the . and eventually went gold. Such an attempt to embrace a new, grungier sound proved to be a commercial disappointment, however, as did the band's supporting tour. A collection of new material, New Tattoo, appeared in the summer of 2000 to a lukewarm reception, and Castillo was stricken with an undisclosed illness on the eve of the requisite tour.
Title: Mötley Crüe (13 Dec 1998). From a hard rock point of view, I think "Shout At The Devil" is the best Motley Crue album. And when sobriety helped save the band and their individual lives, "Dr. Feelgood" gave them their biggest hit and expanded Nikki Sixx's songwriting abilities into something much more respectable, a word not often associated with the Crue. They'd established a stage show tradition from the very beginning and more budget money allowed them to expand on all kinds of crazy ideas, especially Tommy Lee's drum antics. Nowadays, the question on many minds always is, "What are they trying this time in an effort to top themselves?"
