Herder–farmer conflicts in Nigeria usually involve disputes over land and/or cattle between herders (in particular the Fulani and Hausa) and farmers (for example the Adara, Tiv and Tarok). The most impacted states are those of the Nigerian Middle Belt like Benue, Taraba and Plateau. 3,641 people have died in the clashes from 2015 to late 2018.

Brief History of Plateau State Plateau State was created out of the then Benue-Plateau State. Plateau State gets its name from the Jos Plateau, a mountainous area in the north of the state with captivating rock formations. Bare rocks are scattered across the grasslands, which cover the plateau.

Benue State originated from the formal Benue in Plateau State in 1976 along side with the Igala and some areas of Kwara State. The State came into existence on 3rd February 1979 during the regime of the late general Multurala Muhammad. The region was first known as Munshi Province till 1918 when the Benue River was acquired, this is the largest river so far.
