Violin Concerto No.
The violin concerto by Isaac Stern is very good, but since I have recordings of this most famous concerto by the two greatest violinists of the twentieth century - Jascha Heifetz and David Oistrakh - he seems less than ideal. These three concertos are beautifully done with excitement and drama; Ormandy, Serkin and Stern bring these works to life in a manner sure to please the listener. The authority Rudolf Serkin brings to the piano works creates a musical experience worthy of a standing ovation; they are powerhouses that left me saying Wow!
Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, is his last large orchestral work. It forms an important part of the violin repertoire and is one of the most popular and most frequently performed violin concertos in history. A typical performance lasts just under half an hour. Mendelssohn originally proposed the idea of the violin concerto to Ferdinand David, a close friend and then concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
