Roy Sydney Porter, FBA (31 December 1946 – 3 March 2002) was a British historian known for his important work on the history of medicine. He retired in 2001 from the director of the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine at University College, London (UCL). Porter grew up in South London and attended Wilson's School in Camberwell. He won a scholarship to Christ's College, Cambridge, where he studied under J. H. Plumb. His contemporaries included Simon Schama and Andrew Wheatcroft.

ROY PORTER is a fusion, big band funk jazz music artist. in Los Angeles in 1946. Porter was born in a small mining town, but moved to Colorado Springs with his mother at the age of 8, following the death of his father. He was brought up there, and subsequently attended Wiley College in Texas, where the trumpeter Kenny Dorham was one of his fellow students. His early influences on drums were the swing era giants Gene Krupa and Chick Webb, and he began playing in rhythm and blues bands as a teenager.
