Jel's 10 SECONDS takes on the more abstract side of hip-hop, with the beats fading into "Multi Pitch" before the funk organ breaks out, which "Multi Level" switches out for some bell-tones. "Exit Multi Mode" goes for a more mysterious sound, which is echoed in "Channel Assign." Though many of the tracks are short and little more than ideas on wax or vignettes, there's a few gems here, like the blues chant of "Forget It" or beatbox frenzy of "1st Song/Step." Indeed, there seems a disconnect between these track, which make them seem like stand-alone pieces, rather than building to an album proper. But with the funk jam of "Special" or the plucky and Indian-influenced "Ears." "Subsong," clocking in at six minutes, is the longest track, though it doesn't quite develop enough, but its main riff is quite nice. An interesting diversion.
