Chordelia Formerly known as Al Tourettes, London-based producer Alec Storey unveiled his new project as Second Storey with 2013’s ‘Margosa Heights’ EP. ‘Double Divide’, his debut LP, is a massive statement of an album and inhabits a space full of contradictions, paradoxes and idiosyncrasies. Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Purchasable with gift card.

Second Storey has a lot to build upon, hailing, as he does, on the Houndstooth label. But as DOUBLE DIVIDE gurgles into life with the synth layers of "North Facing" and the breaks of "Reserved" start the forward momentum. The twitchy "Combustion Hallmark" builds upon that until the deep bass hits of "Shaman Champagne" the longer, swooning and twinkling tones that come in halfway through. And "Chordelia" ends the album on a melodic, Detroitian note.

Second Storey ‎– Double Divide. Label: Houndstooth ‎– HTH031CD. Second Storey has a lot to build upon, hailing, as he does, on the Houndstooth label.

A double album (or double record) is an audio album which spans two units of the primary medium in which it is sold, typically records and compact disc. A double album is usually, though not always, released as such because the recording is longer than the capacity of the medium.

Written over the course of a self reflective year, ‘Double Divide’ is a mix of adventurous club tunes that show off Storey’s bass roots as well as his ired musical abilities. Like many others, Storey has fallen under the spell of Aphex Twin and Autechre and has been shaped by the complex rhythmic structures and emotive melodic phrases associated with their music.

More on Second Storey. Depending on how your mind is fixed, you may process Second Storey's unique brand of electronic music as a physical, energetic kind of rave music, or you could find yourself postulating on the dense intricacies that his sonic life-forms contain. The vinyl-only release on Houndstooth, with two remixes from Dettmann, lands early December. Second Storey back on Houndstooth with second album, Lucid Locations. The UK producer's next LP is inspired by themes of disorientation.

"One Sound" starts out similarly rough, like a fistfight in a robot factory, before "Devotion Notion" hits the pause button for a more meditative opening section that soon shifts into a series of slow breaks. But after the interlude of "Protozoan Milkshake," "Trope" goes straight for the jugular. The cut-up spoken word on "The Overview Effect" becomes almost another percussive element until the track drifts off into its beatless second half. And "Chordelia" ends the album on a melodic, Detroitian note. Time to move on up!
