Original 1954 US mono issue on maroon/gold Columbia labels. Tracks A1 & A2 were recorded off the air and the remaining tracks were part of a radio broadcast. All tracks were recorded live, in front of an audience, at the Storyville nightclub in Boston.

This Columbia LP contains a total of six tracks from three different appearances by the Dave Brubeck Quartet at George Wein's Storyville between December 1953 and July 1954, two of which originated from radio broadcasts. Sticking to a mix of standards and popular songs that have since fallen out of favor among jazz musicians, the pianist and his longtime alto saxophonist, Paul Desmond, weave their magic together with several extended imaginative improvisations, particularly "On the Alamo" and "Gone with the Wind.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet is a jazz album released by The Dave Brubeck Quartet in several iterations between 1952 and 1962. The album was first released in 1952, on the Fantasy Records label, as Fantasy 10" LP 3-7. The tracks were recorded in September 1952 at the "Surf Club" in Hollywood, California. In place of Quartet regulars Bob Bates and Joe Dodge, are Wyatt "Bull" Ruther on bass and, depending on the track, either Herb Barman or Lloyd Davis on drums.
