The Rivals' first practice was on Boxing Day. The two, like other early punks, saw shows by many of the seminal, though then mostly unhailed, giants of the nascent punk scene: the Stranglers, the Buzzcocks, the Slits, Gang of Four, and the Clash. A skinny little Herbert' named Marc Hebden joined Edwards and Leinster on drums; they rehearsed at his house as there was more room. A twenty-track compilation album called If Only came out in 2007. First single 'Future Rights' was something of a hit in 1979 in the Kent punk scene (at least in Thanet), and the Rivals drew (sometimes ambivalent) comparisons to the already-defunct Sex Pistols. One zine declared, extravagantly, that 'it has now become the norm for people of all ages to be seen unashamable & openly in the streets whistling the bass line of "Future Rights" the debut and a very fine indeed release.

An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.

Rivals supported The Strokes on their recent visit to Ireland and played at the 02 Wireless Festival at Hyde Park, London in June 2006 with The Strokes, The Ranconteurs, Dirty Pretty Things. The band also performed at Vital 06 and recently toured with Fightstar. 2) The Rivals - Punk Rock, Power Pop band from Kent England who formed around 1978. The band released two great and highly sought after 7" singles before the band split in 1981. Over the last couple of years even more great quality unreleased recordings have been released as "First Ever Session 78 & Demos" on CD in Japan on 1977 Records. 3) RIVALS is a band based in Brisbane, QLD. Formed in 2012, the band has completed several regional, Midwest and east coast shows including most of Australia's major cities.

RIVALS OF AETHER is an indie fighting game where warring civilizations summon the power of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.

But the Esher Demos are fun to listen to in their own right. It’s almost like hearing the Beatles if they were around long enough to do an episode of MTV Unplugged, albeit a bit less polished and a lot more fun than that. Did the Beatles ever intend for all of this stuff to be released? Probably not: then again, they might not have suspected that they’d still be so popular, 50 years later (interestingly, the box set will be released just a few weeks after McCartney’s Egypt Station topped the Billboard Album chart).

The previous album with the mostest and bestest John songs was A Hard Day’s Night, four years earlier. When the Beatles regrouped in England, they decided to get together and tape home demos on their own turf before stepping into Abbey Road – an innovation they’d never tried before and would never revisit. The Esher demos are a real treasure trove; they mined it for years. Songs that got worried to death on the album are played with a fresh one-take campfire feel, just acoustic guitars and handclaps. A couple of half-finished sketches got saved for Abbey Road ( Polythene Pam, Mean Mr. Mustard ), others for their solo records (Paul’s Junk, George’s Not Guilty and Circles, John’s Child of Nature, which he later rewrote as Jealous Guy ).
