George Hurst, Don Garlits - The George Hurst Performance Team ‎(12").

George Hurst may refer to: George Hurst (conductor) (1926–2012), British conductor. George Hurst (artist) (born 1945), American leather artist. George Samuel Hurst (1927–2010), health physicist, scientist, inventor, educator and innovator. George Hurst (died 1986), founder of Hurst Performance. George Hirst (disambiguation). George Hearst (1820–1891), American businessman and politician. George Randolph Hearst (1904–1972), eldest son of William Randolph Hearst.

George Hurst, who has died at the age of 86, may not have been a household name on the podium, but the mark he made on British conducting of the past half-century was immense. As a teacher at both the Canford (now Sherborne) summer school of music and the Royal Academy of Music, he exerted a formative influence on several generations of conductors. Nor was he negligible as a conductor himself. Indeed Rattle later recalled how, at the age of 11, he heard a performance of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony under Hurst that was "a completely transfiguring experience". For him it was "the road to Damascus", marking the point at which "the seed was sown". Hurst was responsible for the regeneration of two British musical institutions.

Hurst Four-Speed Shifters As a kid George Hurst was eaten up by drag racing and fast cars, and he had his mind set on making a mark on the world. In the ’50s, George and his engineer friend Bill Campbell joined Ed Almquist and Jonas Anchel at Anco Industries, a company that made a bunch of speed parts. George and Bill helped Anco to develop new ideas and turn them into marketable parts, and at George’s prodding they decided to build a performance floor shifter.
